WAYS TO ENGAGE

Our Ministries

We have vibrant ministries that take place inside the church and vibrant ministries that are focused outside of the church in our community.

  • MTN KIDS CO.

We have a vibrant Kids ministry called MTN Kids Co. that takes place every Sunday morning! We have two main sections within our kids ministry: Our Jr Kids (Birth - Kindergarten) and Senior Kids (Grades 1 - 5).

From our Nursing Mom’s Room (stocked with yummy snacks for mom) to our Sr Kids, our heart is for our children to encounter and experience the presence and ministry of Jesus.

We are building a culture modelled after the life of Jesus where our kids learn how to Love God, be Led by the Holy Spirit and Live in their kingdom authority on the earth.

Our MTN Kids Ministry is pastored by our Family & Student Pastor: Alex Smethurst. Its teams and operational components are led by our Director of Operations & Outreach: Dani Wilding.

  • JESUS CO. STUDENT MINISTRY

Jesus Co. is for students between grade 6 -12. “Jesus Co.” comes out of Acts 4:13 where it is said of the disciples “They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.” We have a vision to raise up generations of young men and women who are marked by the presence of Jesus. Students who love God, are led by the Holy Spirit, and live in Jesus’ kingdom authority in their schools and world.

  • PRAYER

We want to be people of prayer building a house of prayer. There are several ways you can join us in prayer or receive prayer ministry.

Join Us: Prayer Rooms are places where we seek God and contend for revival in our day. We take time to meditate on scripture, listen to the Spirit and pray corporately together.

Receive Prayer Ministry: Restoration Prayer is a structured prayer process that is like walking through the hallway of your life and entering into every room (experiences & events) to make sure they are swept clean and under the protection of Jesus. In Restoration Prayer we practice confession, repentance and renouncing as we as Jesus to break strongholds and bring renewal. If needed, we also enter into deliverance ministry to set people free from demonic bondage.

  • SPIRITUAL COUNSEL & INNER HEALING

We believe that Jesus is interested in the whole person, not just one’s spiritual life. If you’re feeling stuck and aren’t sure where to turn or what to do, we would love to meet with you.

  • CARE & OUTREACH

We believe God not only wants to work in us, he wants to work through us. We have a passion to care for the vulnerable and hurting and those in need inside and outside of our church.

There are many areas you can get involved in within our Care & Outreach ministries. From participating in meal trains, to visiting shut-ins or volunteering to be one of our “handy-men” ready to help fix basic home or automotive issues.

  • MOM’S CONNECT

We all know that being a mom is the hardest job in world, especially in those early years. Our Mom’s Connect is a monthly gathering of moms on a Friday morning who have children 6 and under. We serve brunch and really great coffee and we connect together to recharge the moms for another week.

  • MEN & WOMEN

We have opportunities for both men and women to connect together, study scripture and seek God together.

    FOR MEN:

    Thursday Morning Coffee (6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.)

Every Thursday morning we gather in the Lobby at the church to drink great coffee, do life together and seek God together. We focus on reading scripture together, praying for each other and opening up about real life.

    Meat+Fire

A few times a year, we gather around the fire to eat great food and connect together.

    Groups
In the Fall and Winter semesters, we gather together at the church on Wednesday nights to dig deeper into scripture, working through a book or topic together.

Our Beliefs

The Essentials:

The beliefs we share as essential within the family of Mountain Park Church are:

  1. The Bible: The authority of Scripture and our submission to it’s living counsel.
  2. The Gospel: The good news that God is ever-pursuing his original Creation mandate of human flourishing and perfect relationship, culminating in Jesus’ sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection.
  3. Salvation: The necessity of salvation by grace for restored relationship with God and one another.
  • God

We believe in the one true God, the source of all life, who rules over all things as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, overflowing in steadfast love. God the Father, the source of all life, sent the Son for the salvation of the world. Jesus Christ the Son proclaimed the reign of God, bringing good news to the poor, and triumphed over sin through his death and resurrection. The Holy Spirit gives people new life, indwells and empowers believers, and assures them of eternal life.

  • Jesus

Jesus is the Son of God, through whom all things were created and who holds all things together, is the image of the invisible God. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, Jesus took on human nature to redeem this fallen world. He revealed the fullness of God through His obedient and sinless life. Through word and deed, Jesus proclaimed the reign of God, bringing good news to the poor, release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind. Christ triumphed over sin through His death and resurrection, and was exalted as Lord of creation and the church. The Saviour of the world invites all to be reconciled to God, offering peace to those far and near, and calling them to follow Him in the way of the cross. Until the Lord Jesus returns in glory, He intercedes for believers, acts as their advocate, and calls them to be His witnesses.

  • Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, the Counsellor, is the creative power, presence, and wisdom of God. The Spirit convicts people of sin, gives them new life, and guides them into all truth. By the Spirit, believers are baptized into one body. The indwelling Spirit testifies that they are God’s children, distributes gifts for ministry, empowers for witness, and produces the fruit of righteousness. As Comforter, the Holy Spirit helps God’s children in their weakness, intercedes for them according to God’s will, and assures them of eternal life.

  • Sin & Evil

We believe that the first humans yielded to the tempter and fell into sin. Since then, all people disobey God and choose to sin, falling short of the glory of God. As a result, sin and evil have gained a hold in the world, disrupting God’s purposes for the created order and alienating humans from God and thus from creation, each other, and themselves. Human sinfulness results in physical and spiritual death. Because all have sinned, all face eternal separation from God.

    Principalities and Powers

Sin is a power that enslaves humanity. Satan, the adversary, seeks to rule creation and uses sin to corrupt human nature with pride and selfishness. In sin, people turn from God, exchanging the truth about God for a lie, worshipping and serving the creature rather than the Creator. Sin opens individuals and groups to the bondage of demonic principalities and powers. These powers also work through political, economic, social, and even religious systems to turn people away from holiness, justice, and righteousness. Whether in word, deed, thought, or attitude, all humans are under the domination of sin and, on their own, are unable to overcome its power.

    Genesis 3; 6:11-12; Psalm 14:1-3; 36:1-4; 52:1-7; 58:1-5; 82; Isaiah 53:6; Ezekiel 16:49-50; Amos 2:4-8; Mark 7:20-23; John 8:34, 44; Romans 1:21-32; 3:9-18, 23; 5:12-14, 18-19; 6:23; Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 2:1-3; 6:12; 1 Peter 5:8-9; 1 John 1:8-10; Revelation 12:9

  • Salvation

We believe that God is at work to deliver, heal, redeem, and restore. God reconciled the world to Himself by the atoning blood of Jesus. As people place their trust in Christ, they are saved by grace through faith. Through Christ’s obedient life, his death on the cross, and his glorious resurrection, he triumphed over Satan and the powers of sin and death, opening the way for all people to follow.

  • Spiritual Conflict

We believe that we are engaged in constant spiritual warfare with the principalities and powers of evil, which are seeking to overthrow the Church and frustrate its task of world evangelization. We know our need to equip ourselves with God’s armor and to fight this battle with the spiritual weapons of truth and prayer. For we detect the activity of our enemy, not only in false ideologies outside the Church but also inside it in false gospels which twist Scripture and put people in the place of God. We need both watchfulness and discernment to safeguard the biblical gospel.

    Eph. 6v10-18; Mt. 4v1-11; Ac. 19v13-16

  • The Bible

We believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible, that it is the true and inspired word of God. We believe that the Bible is our standard for life, and its truth, integrity, and relevance is of utmost importance. The Bible is not just a book, but a living guide, full of God’s wisdom and guidance. Through scripture, we learn about God’s character, how to live and act, and how to grow in our spiritual journey. We believe that by reading and studying the Bible, we are able to draw closer to God and deepen our understanding of His love.

  • The Church

    NATURE OF THE CHURCH

We believe that the church is the covenant community called by God through Jesus Christ to follow Christ in a life of discipleship and witness as empowered by the Holy Spirit. The church gathers regularly for worship, fellowship, and accountability. Through the Holy Spirit, God gives gifts to each member for the well-being of the whole body.

    MISSION OF THE CHURCH

We believe that the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ is for all people. Christ commands the church to make disciples of all nations by calling people to repent, and by baptizing and teaching them to love God and neighbour by telling the good news and by doing acts of love and compassion.

  • Sanctity Of Human Life

We believe that all human life belongs to God. The Creator and giver of life values human life highly. Abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide are an affront to God’s sovereignty. The unborn, disabled, poor, aging, and dying are particularly vulnerable. In all decisions regarding life and death, we offer hope and healing, support and counsel.

  • Gender & Sexuality

One of the great difficulties in defining a biblical understanding of sexuality in our modern context is the unseen, inner pain a person often carries behind the question. In recent history, the church has mishandled the topic of sexuality from a variety of angles. The church’s witness has centered on what forms of sexual expression Scripture is against instead of the dignifying, freeing sexual expression Scripture advocates for. Jesus majored in the latter; the church has emphasized the former. More personally, while the church has historically held to an understanding of sexuality distinct from the surrounding culture, the application of that belief in recent history has become alienating to those whose sexual expression does not line up with the church’s. The tragedy of that shift has been that many have been made to feel alienated by the Christian church because of sexual practice and/or sexual orientation.

Because of the complexity presented by recent history, we will succinctly define both our belief and how we express our belief, which carry equal importance.

    Belief

We believe in the historically Christian view of marriage and sexual expression; namely, that marriage is a lifelong one-flesh covenant union between two sexually different persons (male and female) from different families, and that all sexual practice outside of marriage is sin.

    How we Express Our Belief

The expression of this belief is often the more important question to people in search of a spiritual home: Will I (or one of my loved ones) be welcomed at Mountain Park Church? And is there a barrier where that welcome is worn out?

Regardless of sexual practice and/or orientation, Mountain Park Church welcomes all to worship with us. Jesus is the head of the church, and Jesus was uncompromising in teaching and calling people to align with his beliefs, a pathway to “life to the full.” (John 10:10) Another group of rabbis, called the Pharisees, were equally convicted of the truth of their beliefs, and held many beliefs in common with Jesus. So why was it that those who felt alienated by the Pharisees also felt so welcome by Jesus? Because of how each expressed common beliefs: the Pharisees did so in pride, as their primary concern was being right, while Jesus did so in love, as His primary concern was compassion for the person and story behind the belief.

The church is called the Body of Christ. We are a communal expression of Jesus’ heart, so both our beliefs and our expression of those beliefs should mirror Jesus. When it comes to sexuality, we carry three important convictions that inform our expression:

    1. Our first responsibility is to be a living display of covenant love and sexuality. The church was not founded to critique the surrounding culture but to form a distinct counterculture where “life to the full” is on display as an invitation to all. However, in many ways (covenant love and sexuality being one obvious example) the church has mirrored the culture more than forming a counterculture. Therefore, our work is not to change anyone else’s mind or critique the world outside of our family, but to live with the sort of fidelity, service, and love within our own singleness and marriage covenants that we become a living witness to the fullest sort of life.
    2. We lead with a heart of love and compassion for people. The doors and the arms of our church family are open to anyone, regardless of belief. No one will ever be excluded from worshiping with us on Sundays for any misalignment of belief.
    3. We must differentiate between agreement and acceptance. One of the truly fascinating aspects of the life of Jesus is that the very people whose lives least aligned with his ethical teachings were most drawn to him. His dinner company and close friends are made up of people out-of-alignment with his teaching (e.g. Jesus teaches that to even look at a woman lustfully is to commit adultery, then is consistently surrounded by prostitutes who profited on lust; Jesus teaches an ethic of radical generosity, then welcomes a tax collector, whose life was defined by greed, into his inner circle of 12 disciples; etc.). In modern cultural rhetoric, agreement and acceptance are often used synonymously: “If you don’t agree with my ethical choices (belief), you don’t accept me (expression).” However, in Jesus, we observe the opposite phenomenon: Those who felt most accepted in his presence were those most obviously living in disagreement with his teaching. Therefore, as a church we are committed to becoming a community linked to Jesus in both agreement and acceptance. We are unapologetically aligned with every word of his teaching. Equally, we are uncompromisingly insistent on becoming the sort of community where those out-of-alignment with his beliefs (including sexuality) feel welcome and accepted in our fellowship.
  • Women In Leadership

The question of how men and women relate and engage in church leadership offices (particularly pastor and elder) has been a subject of significant debate at various points in church history. There are many considerations within the broader subject of men and women in leadership that are dealt with in the Bible. Here we have included a summary of things we see taught across the arc of Scripture that directly bear on our church’s position and practice.

    • We believe that women and men are created equal in the image of God.
    • We believe that full equality between women and men does not mean women and men are completely the same. There is goodness and beauty uniquely represented in each gender that profoundly reflects and glorifies God.
    • We believe God gives leadership in the church on the basis of grace, calling, spiritual gifts, obedience, and character.
    • We believe both women and men can and should lead, preach, pastor, and minister within the church. We believe women and men doing this together will result in a more robust ministry of love and grace than one gender can sustain alone.
    • We believe women and men can and should serve in pastoral leadership in the local church.

Mountain Park believes that men and women are equally gifted and qualified to lead and serve as co-laborers in the church. We do not simply permit, but expressly value, the presence of both men and women in all facets of church leadership.
